Stefan Gradmann<br />
is a full Professor in the Arts department of KU Leuven (Belgium). Besides his continuing focus on knowledge management and semantically based operations his research and teaching covers digital libraries and web based information architectures, with a special emphasis on the digital humanities and a focus on semiological aspects of meaning and interpretation in the information ecosystem of the WWW.<br />

Stefan Gradmann was involved in the conception and implementation of Europeana from the very beginning (2007) and namely was responsible for semantic interoperability of this huge pan-European infrastructure for representing cultural heritage of all kinds on the WWW. In this function, he was involved in numerous Europeana related EU funded projects as work package leader as well as consortium coordinator (of the DM2E project).<br />
<br />
He is currently investigating the research potential of Europeana for the Digital Humanities and involved in the shaping of Horizon 2020 in this respect.<br />
