Synopsis
XPAT is an XML-aware search engine commonly used with the DLXS middleware. AS explained in the DLXS prospectus, "XPAT is based on the search engine previously marketed by Open Text as OT5(TM), and sometimes referred to as 'Pat' and 'Pat5.0.'"
Features
http://www.dlxs.org/docs/12a/xpat/index.html
User commentary
Please sign all comments. XPAT indexes "regions", which are defined as all the content (not just PCDATA) between given tags. This means that if you have markup like some text <add>added</add> , you'll never be able to find this instance when searching on the phrase "text added". Kshawkin
System requirements
See http://www.dlxs.org/docs/12a/intro/sysreq.html, http://www.dlxs.org/techinfo/requirements.html, and http://www.dlxs.org/techinfo/environments.html .
Source code and licensing
The source code is not open source.
The University of Michigan is the exclusive licensor of XPAT to non-profit institutions. See http://www.dlxs.org/about/prospectus.html for details.
A free (gratis) version lacking Unicode support and limited to collections of 10 MB is available without technical support. See http://www.dlxs.org/products/index.html .
Support for TEI
No out-of-the-box support for TEI, but when used with the DLXS middleware, there is out-of-the-box support for "Text Class" content, which is based on the TEI Lite P3 version.
Language(s)
Documentation is in English.
Documentation
XPAT Manual -- currently incomplete online; DLXS customers are provided a printed volume of documentation to PAT 5.0, the precursor to XPAT (as explained at http://www.dlxs.org/docs/12a/xpat/index.html )
