This year's SIG meeting started with a presentation by Uwe Sikora (Göttingen State and University Library) of an application that is being developed to annotate nested <zone> elements. From there the discussion went on to general issues of positioning zones in non-TEI formats such as SVG and JSON. Whether and how to link this kind of coordinate data to TEI documents is still a matter of debate (cf. https://github.com/TEIC/TEI/issues/1508) that is becoming more and more relevant, particularly in the light of the increasing popularity of IIIF.
