Comments on TEI Header narrative overhaul?
We decided to postpone discussion of this until more people are present.
using tagUsage to document numbered vs. unnumbered divs (see Syd's email on 2009-02-24)
Syd agreed that the current use of
<tagUsage gi="div">Unnumbered divs used.</tagUsage>
is fine, but he wasn't sure about the way to represent that numbered divs were used. He explained that P4 required that every element used in the document have a tagUsage element documenting its use, but P5 now only recommends this. After consideration, he felt that using <tagUsage gi="div1">
to capture this information would be sufficient.
Syd said that, in any case, that tagUsage must always be wrapped in a namespace element. Kevin said he would make this adjustment in the table of elements to match the example (which Syd already adjusted).
advanced header practices: "The TEI header may be used to describe a collection of documents, a single item, or a portion of an item." See Michelle's comments in this section.
We agreed that it would be better to eliminate this section entirely to avoid further confusion, but we want to check with whoever added it in.
- Kshawkin 13:14, 8 March 2009 (EDT): just realized that this sentence came from version 2.1 of the GBP, so none of us added it. Will delete in wiki.
otherDesc
Syd said there are two separate questions:
A. What mechanism should we use to we point from the TEI header to metadata located outside the TEI document? (For example, how do you identify a MARC, METS, or MODS record that provides additional metadata about the TEI document and/or the source document?)
B. Should we provide a recommendation on storing non-TEI metadata within the TEI document (using a different element namespace)? For example, should we allow Dublin Core elements anywhere in the TEI header?
We decided to postpone futher discussion of these questions.
Miscellaneous
Kevin said he would make the tagUsage change in the wiki and add the other open questions to the "talk" page. He said he would talk with Michelle about putting them on the agenda for the next group meeting.
