Revising the BP

Background

From 2008 to 2011, members of the SIG on Libraries worked on a major revision to the Best Practices for TEI in Libraries. This process took so long because there were a lot of things for us to address, but in a few matters were intentionally left for a future revision. Some of these had to do with things for which there was no good solution at the time -- for example, embedding external metadata in a header.

Given the introduction of @style, the upcoming introduction of an element for external metadata, and various other changes to P5, it's time we revisit the document.

Path forward

1. Kevin asks Syd to transfer https://github.com/sydb/TEI-in-Libraries to his user ("kshawkin") (see documentation) to relieve Syd of responsibility for adding future collaborators. [DONE]
2. Kevin renames the repository to "Best-Practices-for-TEI-in-Libraries" and edits the site description. At the same time, he updates the links at http://www.tei-c.org/SIG/Libraries/teiinlibraries/ and Future changes to Best Practices for TEI in Libraries. [DONE]
3. Kevin goes through Future changes to Best Practices for TEI in Libraries and creates issues in GitHub for things to consider updating. (A comment should be added to the one issue that has already been created, pointing to a new issue drawing from the more current info in the wiki, and then the old issue should be closed.) Other suggestions about things the SIG might do should be put somewhere in the TEI wiki (or in the GitHub wiki?). [DONE. OTHER SUGGESTIONS NOW IN WIKI.]
4. Kevin clears the text on Future changes to Best Practices for TEI in Libraries, leaving just a link to the GitHub issues. He also updates http://www.tei-c.org/SIG/Libraries/teiinlibraries/ to no longer point to the wiki page. [DONE]
5. Kevin emails teilib-l and tei-l and asks people to comment on the tickets or, if they prefer, send comments by email. He also asks people to submit tickets on any other bugs or improvements or submit pull requests for any corrigible errors they wish to fix. Kevin says we'll discuss the issues at a SIG meeting in Lyon. Kevin asks for volunteers to help implement tickets by editing the ODD source. [DONE]
6. Once people have had a chance to reacquaint themselves with the BP, he emails the same lists to remind people that they can contribute to Incorporating BP into P5.
7. At a SIG meeting in Lyon, we review the comments and ask for additional comments from people. [INSTEAD DECIDED TO FORM Workgroup to revise the Best Practices for TEI in Libraries.]
8. Kevin and volunteers implement issues according to consensus by modifying ODD source, testing as we go along.
9. We publicize the new version.
